It makes me so happy to be living in a city where fitness and health are encouraged in such a fun way. We’ve had the Desert Warrior Challenge, the Zombie Run, the Wadi Adventure Race, and now we finally get to experience the very popular Spartan Race. How lucky are we?
For the first time, the Reebok Spartan Race, presented by X Dubai, will be taking place in the UAE on February 20th 2015 at the Jebel Ali Racecourse, Al Barsha Dubai. The Spartan Race is one of the most renowned obstacle race series with over 60 races held in over 21 countries.
What to expect? “Mud mud, and more mud” says Rayyan Yacob Agha, Managing Director of the event
The Spartan Sprint (which is the only level you could pick) includes a 5k run with over 15 obstacles. Commonly, obstacles of any Spartan Race are not revealed until the actual race itself, but participants should expect to see a rope climb, a slippery wall, a fire jump, mud pools, and barbed-wire barriers. You think that’s challenging? Wait, there’s more. If participants are not able to complete an obstacle, they will automatically be sent to the “burpee station” that will be located right next to each obstacle – 30 burpees for each failed obstacle. Yes, you heard correctly
A Junior Race will also be available (ages 4-15 years old) which gives an opportunity for the younger generation to take a stand on wanting to commit to a healthier lifestyle
The Spartan Race is more than just a competitive race; it is also about having a good time with your family and friends in a positive setting. There will be numerous family-friendly games, live entertainment, a carnival, and plenty of food and beverages.
“It is not just about coming down and running. This is what we want to do with the race, to get people off the couch to the race and give them a better and healthier lifestyle. People like to say we have one of the highest obesity rates in the world – we are on the podium. The Spartan Race aims to get people to wake up, get up, and to “Spartan up” as we like to say” says Rayyan Yacob Agha.
